The seating leader will use Serta patented technology to enhance comfort and quality

Hoffman Estates, Ill. – April 8, 2009  Barcalounger Home and Serta International will partner to produce a new and advanced cushion product using Serta patented technology to enhance overall seating comfort. Beginning in June, Barcalounger Home will be incorporating Serta’s exclusive Comfort Quilt® convoluted foam with Dacron® wrap technology into its line of chairs, stationary upholstery and sleepers.

“This is the first time that a renowned company like Barcalounger Home has taken a patented bedding feature and translated it into a seating advancement,” said Bob Malin, Vice President of Licensing for Serta. “It’s exciting to have an opportunity to partner in a way that provides obvious and immediate benefits to consumers across the country.” 

Serta’s Comfort Quilt® was first used in Serta Perfect Sleeper® products in the mid-1990s to significantly reduce pressure points that can cause tossing and turning for a more restful night’s sleep. Comfort Quilt® works by helping to distribute weight evenly which works to improve circulation. This same technology is now being applied to produce a more comfortable seat cushion. 

“We’re very excited to introduce Serta’s Comfort Quilt® in our seating cushions,” explained Barcalounger Home Executive Vice President/Chief Marketing & Sales Officer Larry Smith. “We’re transferring Serta’s ‘science of sleeping comfort’ into a new era of seating comfort that is already generating very positive responses from dealers.”

More than 50 styles of Barcalounger Home recliners, stationary upholstery and sleepers will be manufactured with Comfort Quilt®; customers will be able to upgrade to Blend Down and Spring Down options for even more support and durability. 

“In addition to providing seating that contours to body shape, provides improved circulation, reduces pressure points and enhances comfort, customers can choose from these ‘good, better, best’ Comfort Quilt® options, depending on their desire for enhanced levels of comfort,” said Smith.

Examples of the Comfort Quilt® Cushion in Barcalounger Home chairs and sleepers will be on display at the Barcalounger Home showroom C754 (Commerce St. entrance) during the April High Point Market beginning April 25.
